About Us

Hello and welcome to Story Plate! My name is Fiona and I will be your host today as you navigate through our site.

To explain what Story Plate is, I need to start with why I created this site.

The Why

Story Plate was born out of a pie-in-the-sky idea that I could somehow single-handedly save small businesses at risk of shutting down during COVID.
It all started on my couch during the first lockdown. I was binge-watching, of all things, “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” with Guy Fieri. At that moment, it occurred to me that many of these small businesses probably won’t make it through the pandemic.

My heart sank as I thought of all these people who often survive on a week-to-week basis, and then I thought of their families. Growing up, my parents operated a small eatery of their own, so I understood just how devastating these tough times could be.

I wanted to do something to help. In an attempt to focus my energy on something positive, I decided to get to work on finding a creative way to help those in need from afar.

As a woman in business, I wanted to support other girl bosses by creating a female-first platform. Story Plate puts the spotlight on female chefs, restaurateurs, and mixologists in a relatively speaking male-dominated industry. We’re choosing to highlight these women’s stories, share their recipes, and simultaneously make a difference in our communities by donating to the causes that these women care about.

How It Works

Story Plate is a recipe sharing platform for good. Not only are we sharing recipes, we also share the stories of the women behind the recipe – the chef that worked three jobs and lived off ramen for years so she could open up her own shop, the engineering student that decided she’d rather study pastries than build airplanes. These culinary contributors have given us access to original or fan-favorite recipes that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

Here’s the best part. For every $2 recipe download you purchase, 80% will go towards the Culinary Contributor’s charity of choice! You will also have the option to make a larger contribution to the charity, an additional $5 or $10, 100% of which will go directly to the charity!

We hope that you not only discover new favorite dishes on this platform, but you’ll also discover new restaurants to add to your travel list.

To our Culinary Contributors, thank you for sharing your gift with us so that together, we can make a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.

To my fellow foodie-at-home-chefs, I hope you enjoy our site. Thank you in advance for your contribution to these worthy causes.

Please pass our story along!

Oh hey…you’re still reading. Well, if you’re interested, here’s a little background on who I am and how I’m living that Story Plate life…

Story

I LOVE a good story and sharing a good story with others, so much so that I turned it into a career.

I’ve been in the storytelling business now for over a decade. My first big break was at a luxury lifestyle publication where I had to opportunity to speak with a number of interesting and impressive individuals. I then ventured off into freelance journalism covering local spots for city guides and dabbled a little in fashion reporting. These days I’m a content strategist specializing in digital storytelling platforms.

So why food?

Food is VERY important to me. I live to eat, I don’t just eat to survive – in fact, I’d say eating is my favorite hobby.

But it’s not just about eating (a big part of it is), it’s the story behind the dish. Understanding the significance behind each dish is part of the fun of it for me and I’m honored to share the stories behind these dishes with you!

If you have any questions for me like, if I had to choose one thing to eat for the rest of my life what would it be? Or if I could be a carb which one would I be? Shoot me an email by visiting the contact page!
